Helen Morgan

Today I write a tribute to our wonderful sister Helen Morgan (nee Kirkby).

Helen passed away suddenly and way too early on May 25 at her home.

Helen’s tennis life started at the public courts in New Brighton.  Being no 4 out of 6 children, my mum entertained us all by taking us down to the courts to wear us out.  She went onto to win tournaments at her school, Maris Stella Convent in New Brighton, proudly bringing home the silver for the mantelpiece! She joined Wallasey Manor and became involved with Wirral Junior League, coaching the juniors. She went onto play at Thorndale, enjoying playing in most ladies matches.

She joined Bertram Tennis club when she moved to Meols, becoming lady’s team captain for over 15 years.  She joined Hoylake in 2018 after her much loved friend and tennis partner Shona Bennet passed away.  She came to join her friend Liz Stockley and went onto persuade Jean and Tracy to join last year, along with Paula Stewart.  She loved Hoylake and like so many of us made so many great and lasting friendships.   Her tennis bought her so much joy.   She was impressed by the warmth and humour so many of us have enjoyed and in return she gave it back to everyone who met her.  Chatting constantly, waving that famous finger at us to make a point or maybe that was just me, I was the little sister after all!

We have been overwhelmed by the cards messages and flowers remembering Helen, it really has meant a lot to us all.

She leaves her husband Glynn, son John, step children James & Laura and newly arrived Fern, her granddaughter. Her family will miss her terribly…Sean, Rose, Jimmy, myself and Mary, along with her many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral is potentially June 29 at Blacon Crematorium however this date will be confirmed next week.

Once again thank you all for kindness in this last week, Helen would love and so appreciate all the fuss!
