The Club committee wishes to adopt a sensible, proportionate approach to help members minimise their risk of contracting the virus, and have used advice from the Government, LTA and World Health Organisation.

Preventing the spread of Covid-19

Everyone involved in tennis in Britain is encouraged to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 and avoid catching it by following Public Health England and NHS guidance.

Information on how to do this is provided on the NHS.UK website, with additional information available on the Public Health England blog.

The latest Government guidance and information regarding Covid-19 can be found via the following link: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public.

Anyone who has been advised to self-isolate or stay at home based on the advice on the NHS.UK website should clearly not take part in tennis activities.

The World Health Organisation (March 2020) indicates that outdoor physical activity with family or friends can be done if care is taken (e.g. handwashing before and after activity, not touching the face, retaining social distancing of 2 metres, not shaking hands etc). It also suggests that gatherings involving a sizeable/flowing group should be avoided.

HLTC Committee have agreed that:-

  • Internal club tennis matches can continue (Wirral Winter League has been cancelled)
  • Coaching can continue
  • Social events in the Clubhouse will be postponed
  • The Clubhouse, particularly toilets, basins & door handles, will be cleaned more frequently
  • It is recommended that members do NOT use the kitchen or bar, in order to avoid transmission of the virus
  • Posters about Coronavirus will be posted in the clubhouse

(Please note: Anyone choosing to play tennis or using the clubhouse does so at their own risk.)

The following events have been postponed: Open Day, Ladies Charity Tournament, Floodlit Semi-finals and Finals and supper and the Wine Tasting evening. More events may be postponed in the future: please see our website for news.

Information about LTA:

The LTA remains in communication with the Government and is assessing the implications of its latest announcement for tennis in Britain over the coming weeks.  While this assessment is being undertaken, there will be an immediate suspension of activity delivered by the LTA until further notice.  This will include all LTA organised training sessions, training courses and LTA staged and LTA approved competitions (grade 1 to 6).
