News from Cheshire LTA

The following email comes from theCheshire County Administrator….

There is such a lot going on in Cheshire at the moment that I thought I’d try to summarise everything in one email rather than bombard you!

1) Cheshire East v West Matches

As some of you are aware the Cheshire West v East U12 boys and U12 girls fixtures on Saturday 6th October are fast approaching.

Due to low numbers we will be holding additional trials for both the U12 boys and U12 girls teams.

The U12 boys trials are this Sunday 23rd September, 5.30-7pm at Hoole at Mickle Trafford Tennis Club. Please send any nominations through to Liam Shelbourne on 07816784294 or

The U12 girls trials are this Saturday 22nd September, 2-4pm at Hooton Tennis Club. Please send any nominations to Arron Woodward on 07712257414 or

The trials are free to attend and aimed at players who are looking to compete but haven’t represented Cheshire in this year’s county cup. The trials will be run as fun high tempo training sessions.

2) Floodlights

Bowdon LTC have asked if any club is interested in floodlights that they need no longer need. All of these have metal halide luminaires that were working as recently as March, but would probably need rewiring, PAT testing and the new users would benefit from fitting LED heads rather than metal halide.

All are designed to be stable with the very heavy metal halide fittings

There are 4 of the “folding type” which are 4m tall and 4 of the retractable type which are winch operated, I cannot remember the exact maximum extend height, but probably in excess of 4m. These units are VERY HEAVY and will require a machine & labour to move. (Platt Construction have moved them so far and could move them to requested site for a fee).
Photos of the floodlights are attached.
I know nothing more about these so please contact for more information.

3) Social Media Workshop – Weds 26th September – it’s FREE!

In the last club survey, you asked for more help with social media as it’s so important to get it right. There is a FREE course available on Weds 26th Sept at Hoole LTC at Mickle Trafford, time is 6.30pm. Please book your place here

4) British Tennis Awards are now OPEN!

We know that there are some fantastic people involved in all aspects of tennis in Cheshire – so let’s celebrate them! Who works tirelessly for your club? Who has coached your team to great successes? Why not say “thank you” by nominating them for an award? The nomination process is really easy and takes hardly any time. Nominate in 1 of the 10 categories here but be quick as closing date is 26th October.

5) New Office

We are finally ready to move into the new county office at Hoole LTC, based in School Lane, Mickle Trafford CH2 4EF. Although there may be a bit of to-ing and fro-ing with boxes to unpack, we hope to be resident from next Tuesday 25 September. For the time being, please use the mobile number to contact me as there is a problem with the main landline.

Best wishes

Lynne Whitford

County Administrator
