It is with great sadness that we report that Geoff Brown passed away peacefully earlier this week.
Frank Noble offers the following tribute to Geoff:
“It is difficult to know where to start in writing an appreciation of Geoff and very sad to have to do so in the present circumstances. As club captain from 1989 to 1992 Geoff expanded the Club’s involvement with the Wirral tennis league and raised the profile of the Club’s handicap tournament by making the finals the centre-piece of a very successful ‘Champagne and Strawberries’ Sunday afternoon. As Chairman (1999 – 2003) he revitalised the Junior section of the club after a difficult period, laying the foundation for its current success. He also took the first steps towards the provision of floodlights. Within and outside these periods of office Geoff used his apparently boundless energy and enthusiasm to the benefit of the membership. He organised, or was the driving force behind, a number of Club activities. This included Club skiing holidays, golf tournaments, Club camps in Snowdonia and a Coast-to-Coast cycling expedition. He also assembled a quiz team which he entered in the Wirral Quiz League and which is still active.”
Geoff was irrepressible and irreplaceable. He was a larger-than-life figure, at his happiest when organising some new venture. Every club needs a Geoff and we were lucky enough to have the genuine article. To use one of his phrases: ‘’He will be sorely missed’.
Geoff’s funeral will be held on Thursday, 21st June at 12:30 in St Bridget’s Church, West Kirby, and afterwards at Hillbark. He will be buried in Frankby cemetery.
